Buying notes

Pack season: Italian tomatoes are packed August to September. New-pack tins are in Vancouver from late October. Buyers who want one pack year across the season reserve in July.
Container quantities: A 20-foot container carries about 10 pallets, roughly 900 cases of 2.5 kg tins. Tomatoes are heavy; weight, not volume, sets the limit. Mixed containers with olive oil and spices and salt are the usual order.
Foodservice formats: Kitchens take 2.5 kg and 4.5 kg tins, 5 kg olive pails and 1 kg caper jars. See the supply terms for restaurants and foodservice.
Retail formats: Grocers take 400 g tins and 700 g passata with bilingual labels for the Canadian shelf. See grocery retail and distribution.
Lanes: Tinned goods move by rail intermodal to Toronto and Montreal and by truck to Calgary and Seattle. Lane detail on import to Canada and import to the US.
